How Transformer Oven Function
First, the electric heating elements convert electrical energy into heat. A circulation fan then moves the heated air through the oven chamber. The hot air transfers heat to the transformer components and gradually raises their temperature.
As the temperature of the workpiece increases, moisture, solvents, and other volatile substances within or on the surface of the insulating materials begin to evaporate. The circulating airflow carries the released moisture and vapors away from the workpiece.
Temperature sensors continuously measure the actual chamber temperature. The control system compares the measured temperature with the preset value and regulates the heating output to maintain the required drying temperature.
Transformer Oven Drying Process
Loading — Transformer components are placed on the trolley and moved into the oven on rails.
Preheating — The oven raises the temperature gradually to avoid excessive thermal stress on the workpiece.
Moisture evaporation — As the temperature rises, moisture in the insulation and other components evaporates. Hot air circulation helps carry moisture out of the chamber.
Constant-temperature drying — The oven holds the set temperature for a specified period. Holding time depends on transformer size, insulation structure, material properties and the required moisture level.
Varnish or resin curing — If the components are varnished or resin-treated, the oven continues heating to support curing. Temperature and holding time should follow the material specifications.
Cooling — Heating stops after the cycle is complete. The transformer is cooled under controlled conditions before removal.
